Criminals are living in great conditions.

In many countries, places of detention almost similar to the hotels (of course, not the Hilton, but still). They are designed to rehabilitate even the most violent criminals. Conditions in such places may seem luxurious — with some degree of conditionality. For example, in Norwegian prisons have well-equipped gyms, and in Wales — even the pool tables.

Business Insider collected pictures of places of detention around the world who argue that serving the sentence may be different.

In the Finnish Suomenlinna prison is no barbed wire — just a low fence, so it is often called an “open prison”.

In neighbouring Norway to Halden prison inmates are allowed to cook, play video games and play basketball. And the camera, in which there is even a soft mattress, more like a University Dorm than a place of punishment. The Norwegians adhere to the idea that if you treat prisoners like human beings, they can become productive members of society.

The prison of San Pedro is a unique phenomenon which appeared about 20 years ago. It occupies an entire block right in the heart of the Bolivian city of La Paz. In a Swedish prison Sollentuna allow prisoners to cook and spend hours watching TV or spending time in the gym. As in Norway and Finland, here share the Scandinavian approach to rehabilitation.
