In a place that will become a tourist attraction, was found about 50 thousand traces of prehistoric reptiles.

By 2019, the municipality of Altamura plans to give tourists access to one of the most unique historic places.

By 2019, the commune Altamura, near Bari, is planned to open to the public the valley of the dinosaurs (Cava dei dinosauri), a place of world importance, where, in 1999, was discovered more than 50 thousand traces of reptiles that lived on the planet for more than 70 million years ago.

Dinosaurs and their young – as evidenced by the traces moved across the lime pit, then to take in the woods with dense tropical vegetation and surrounded by deep pools in search of food.

The gorge, which was until recently in private ownership, has recently been purchased by the Ministry of cultural heritage, which is also allocated one million euros to ensure the safety and preservation of ancient prints.
