Spain’s constitutional court banned the plenary session of the Parliament of Catalonia, which should decide the question of declaring the independence of the region in view of the results of the recent referendum, unrecognised by official Madrid.
Despite the position of Central authorities, representatives of the coalition factions of the Catalan Parliament decided to hold the October 9 meeting to discuss the results of the referendum.
The Spanish socialist workers party asked the court to block the meeting because a referendum had previously been banned by the Constitutional court of the country.
The leader of Catalonia Carles Pujdeme intends to officially announce the final results of the vote and announce the implementation plan of the decision of the referendum.
According to the Catalan law on the referendum, the President of the authority shall start the procedure for the Declaration of independence and entail a vote in Parliament on this issue.
Recall that the Catalan authorities claim that about 90% of voters supported independence from Spain.
Previously, the Commission stated that if Catalonia will secede from Spain, it will be outside of the European Union.
