In the United States intend to establish a Tribunal for the trial of the Assad regime

The Tribunal will investigate crimes committed by the regime of Bashar al-Assad and other parties to the conflict in Syria.

A group of influential U.S. senators introduced a bill on prosecution for war crimes committed in Syria (Syrian War Crimes Accountability Act).

It provides the possibility of creating a hybrid Tribunal to try Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his regime and for the investigation of war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide committed by all parties to the conflict in Syria, including the Islamic state.

In the composition of such a hybrid Tribunal may enter Syrian and foreign lawyers, judges and other professionals, whose task would be to prosecute those suspected of committing the above crimes in Syria since March 2011.

The senators also offered to give the Secretary of state the right to provide support to individuals and organizations that are looking for those who committed similar crimes, collect documents and evidence, conduct investigations and protect witnesses.

“The United States must lead the international community in the efforts aimed at bringing Assad to justice for its war crimes and brutal persecution against the Syrian people over the past six years,” said one of the authors of the bill, Democrat Senator Ben Cardin.

For his part, Republican Senator Marco Rubio, who heads the Senate Subcommittee on foreign Affairs, stated that “this bill is the first step towards accountability for human rights violations committed against innocent civilians of Syria.”

“We need to bring to justice those responsible for the barbaric attacks of the Syrian regime and the systematic use of chemical weapons,” added Rubio.

As reported Корреспондент.net in the night of 7 April, the United States destroyed the Tomahawk missiles the airport shirt in the West of Syria. It was a response to the deaths of dozens of people in a chemical attack in Idlib province. In this crime charged with the forces of Bashar al-Assad.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has called the missile a US strike on Syria aggression against a sovereign state in violation of international law.
