The Thracian town of Xanthi is preparing for the opening of the 52nd carnival.
The carnival program includes various events, introducing the history, culture and folklore of the region and the many recreational activities.
The main event of the carnival will be a big parade on the last Sunday of the carnival, 26 Feb 2017.
After a large-scale parade will be held on “the Burning of Zaros” — effigies of the carnival king.
This action will be held at the river Casinos, at the entrance to the old town of Xanthi. The closing ceremony of the carnival will this year accompany the fireworks.
