The safety of caffeine is a topical public health issue, which the researchers dedicated a new systematic review of scientific studies. The results confirmed the findings of the widely cited study by canadian scientists (2003), who showed that the use of caffeine in amounts less than 400 mg/day for adults (equivalent to 4 cups of coffee a day), less than 300 mg/day for pregnant and less than 2.5 mg/day for children and adolescents is not associated with harmful effects to health. The results of the study were published in the journal “Food and Chemical Toxicology”.
The authors of the new study noted that from 2003 was published more than 10 thousand scientific papers related to caffeine. So far, however, was not carried out robust, transparent and systematic evaluation of the effects of caffeine
Scientists have carefully analyzed 740 scientific studies to assess the adverse health effects related to caffeine, according to 5 parameters: acute toxicity, influence on the exchange of mineral elements in bones, cardiovascular system, behavior, and reproduction (development).
The researchers came to the conclusion that these levels of caffeine do not cause obvious adverse effects in healthy individuals. the researchers emphasized the need for additional studies of the safety of caffeine persons with disabilities and susceptible populations.
A new study has enhanced the understanding of the effects of caffeine on human health and showed the need to limit the use of this substance in view of the possible harmful health effects.
