It turns out that this food contains substances that enhance sperm quality.
Those men who have faced difficulties in conceiving a child, be sure to include in your diet walnuts. Researchers claim that this food improves the quality of sperm. Eating walnuts helps to reduce the peroxidation process, which is able to damage the cells of the sperm. This type of damage affects the membrane of sperm, mainly consisting of polyunsaturated fatty acids.
Walnuts are one of three types of nuts, which are largely composed of these fatty acids. This means that they have the unique ability to enrich cells of sperm. Handful of walnuts (56 g) contains 13 g of polyunsaturated fatty acids, 18 g of pure fat. During the study, researchers from the University of Delaware were divided into two groups of mice, depending on the type of food for a period of 9 to 11 weeks. In the first group were healthy males, and the second with a genetic predisposition to infertility.
The researchers found significant improvement in sperm motility and morphology in mice, 20% of daily calorie intake which was walnuts, which is equivalent to 71 g of walnuts per day for humans. In genetically sterile mice was noted improvement in sperm morphology, and in both groups it was observed a decrease of the peroxidation process.
Scientists say that to understand the role of specific nutrients in walnuts may need new research, but the findings suggest that these nuts are very useful for the male reproductive system.
