Scientists have linked the consumption of green tea known for its antioxidant properties, violation of digestion of carbohydrates, according to a study published in the scientific article publishing group “Nature”.
Preliminary findings of the research group, headed by Yaroslav Alcobaca, a gastroenterologist from the University of medical Sciences in Poznan (Poland), showed that high consumption of green tea may prevent the digestion of starch and other carbohydrates contained in bread, rice, potatoes and many other products.
Walkowiak and his research team took 28 people, ranging in age from 19 to 28 years, who agreed to refrain from eating for 12 hours.
After this, participants consumed food consisting of a source of starch — grains, drinking green tea or placebo in random order.
After hydrogen breath test, the researchers found that the participants who consumed green tea experienced more difficulty in digestion and absorption of starch than those who took a placebo.
In this regard, the researchers note that high doses of green tea consumed some people (corresponding to several cups), do not meet the optimal daily dose.
They also suggest that a comprehensive study will allow to determine the mechanism by which green tea affects the process of digestion, and explain the clinical significance of its chemical elements.
