Disease caused by a coronavirus from China, received the official name — COVID-2019. This was stated by Director General of the world health organization (who), Tedros Aden Gebreyesus during the broadcast.
According to Gebreyesus, the rules of who needed to choose a name that has nothing to do with geographical name, an animal, a person or group of people. Also the markings must be easy to pronounce and associated with the disease. COVID stands for Coronavirus Disease, that is, “Coronavirus disease”.
Earlier, the state health Committee of China gave the disease caused by a coronavirus, called Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia (NCP), which translates to English as “pneumonia caused by a new type of coronavirus”. It was noted that it is only temporary.
An outbreak of coronavirus was first recorded in the Chinese city of Wuhan at the end of December 2019. In addition to China, the cases have been detected in more than 20 countries. The who declared the outbreak of coronavirus an emergency situation of international importance.
