A team of biotechnologists from the California compared the genetic changes in the lungs of a smoker, a cancer patient, with the genes of a healthy person and found about 50,000 changes. The study was published in the journal Nature.

Smoking is the main cause of lung cancer, and, according to recent reports, mutations in the genes come from each smoked cigarette. However, it is not so simple. The body tries to fight the harmful effects of Smoking and DNA processes by which the body “repairs” itself. Over time this protection wears out and becomes less effective, the expert explained.
