The former coach of Shakhtar Donetsk Mircea Lucescu has resigned as head coach of the Russian Zenit.
Lucescu headed “Zenith” on may 24, 2016 after 12 years spent at Shakhtar. The Romanian specialist has signed with the club from St. Petersburg a contract for 2+1, but after the first season were dismissed.
“The Board of Directors of football club “Zenit” took the decision on early termination of the contract with Mircea Lucescu. “Zenith” thanks to Mircea Lucescu and his coaching staff for his work and wish him well in his future career,” – said in a statement published on the official website of the Russian club.
Under Lucescu, Zenit won the Russian super Cup and bronze medals in the local Premier League. In the Europa League, “Zenit” in the 1/16 finals due to the away goal rule lost to Belgian Anderlecht game.
It is expected that the replacement of Mircea Lucescu will be Roberto Mancini, known for his work with inter and Manchester city.
