The former Prime Minister told the details of the disengagement of President in 2014.
Verkhovna Rada Chairman Oleksandr Turchynov became acting President in 2014 after the administration of the Parliament was not able to contact the President. On Monday, December 11, said former Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk giving testimony in the Obolon district court of Kyiv on the case of treason, Viktor Yanukovych.
“In accordance with this agreement (the’ agreement with the political parties pursuant to this agreement, the Verkhovna Rada adopted legislation on the restoration of the parliamentary-presidential Republic) and public statement by then President Yanukovych, such a legislative act was to be signed, but on February 22 in all media showed an interview Yanukovych, in which he said, “I will not sign anything”. Thus Yanukovych refused to sign this agreement”, – said Yatsenyuk.
According to him, in spite of this the Verkhovna Rada tried to contact both with Yanukovych, and presidential Administration, but no official of the Administration, like Yanukovych himself, have not pointed out where they are and whether Yanukovych would return to duty.
The former Prime Minister said that that is why the Verkhovna Rada in the constitutional manner “in connection with the disengagement of President from performing his duties made a decision on temporary assignment of duties of the President in the Verkhovna Rada”.
Responding to a question about whether the attempts of Yanukovych in any way after February 27, contact Yatsenyuk, or Vice versa, the leader of the popular front replied in the negative. “No, I haven’t heard from,” said he.
On the question of whether there was at the time – February-March 2014 – any threats to life and health of Yanukovych, which could objectively lead to the necessity to leave Ukraine, Yatsenyuk recalled that the state protection is granted to the President in the exercise of his powers, but for life.
“At that time, the state guard consisted of several hundred people. Any information about the threat to the life, health of President Yanukovych was not, in fact, as far as I know, it is also confirmed by the fact that personally Viktor Yanukovych refused from the state security, which is the fact that if there was a threat, he would not have refused”, – Yatsenyuk summed up.
