Yanukovych had to impose martial law in the Crimea, – the head of the Navy

Voronchenko said that the Russians put pressure on military personnel and their families.

The military situation in the Crimea was supposed to introduce the President Viktor Yanukovych in early 2014, and Russia was preparing for the seizure of the Peninsula from November 2013. This was announced at a court hearing on charges of Yanukovych of treason, the commander of the Navy APU Igor Voronchenko.

In early 2014 Voronchenko was Deputy commander of the coast guard troops in the Crimea. At the meeting he said that according to his information, the Russian Federation “directly preparing for the annexation of the Crimea from November 2013”, and in January 2014, the intelligence warned of an impending Russian aggression.

“Martial law was supposed to introduce the President Yanukovych on the basis of information which was at that time”, – said Voronchenko, answering questions from lawyers of fugitive ex-dictator.

According to the commander of the Navy, in November 2013, the fuel for the Russian base in Crimea was put to a much greater extent than previously, and by sea from Novorossiysk Russians sent military units to the Ukrainian Peninsula.

Also Voronchenko said that his military unit in Simferopol in March 2014 block of the Kuban Cossacks, paratroopers from Pskov 76th division with appliances, two APCS and KAMAZ.

Deputy chief of the southern military district of the armed forces Lieutenant General Igor Turchenyuk, according to Voronchenko, offered him to move to the side of the invaders. After the refusal he was taken prisoner.

Voronchenko said that the Russians put pressure on military personnel and their families. “Night came, the Cossacks, war and evicted the family, or offered a military wealth. I was offered an apartment in Rostov and the position,” he said.

Russia occupied the Crimea in 2014. The Verkhovna Rada announced on 20 February 2014 beginning of the temporary occupation of the Peninsula Russia. Key international organizations, including the UN General Assembly, condemned the Kremlin’s actions. Against Russia was introduced on personal and sectoral sanctions. For the implementation by Moscow of the so-called parliamentary elections with the participation of the Crimea in 2016 Parliament recognized the state Duma illegitimate.
