The ex-President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych has sent an appeal to the European court of human rights (ECHR) with claims about the “violation of his right to participate in judicial proceedings, where he is accused by Ukrainian prosecutors of treason”.
This was announced by the lawyer of ex-President Vitaly Serdyuk.
“Recently, there was even a signed complaint to the ECHR Viktor Yanukovych, which sets out the complaints about the violation of the right of access to justice, as well as complaints about the illegality of the attempts of his in absentia conviction. The claim was signed and he transferred to my English colleagues for submission to the ECHR,” – said Serdyuk.
According to the lawyer, the court filed a statement on Yanukovych’s challenge in court in order for international cooperation to ensure his participation.
“But we see that it is not beneficial to the General Prosecutor’s office, and they are doing everything to prevent it, despite the fact that have already enjoyed him (Yanukovych – ed.) a written statement of participation in the relevant process,” the lawyer added.
Recall, the protection of Viktor Yanukovych has appealed in February 2017 to the ECHR on the case of his in absentia conviction. Also in 2015, the ex-President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych has filed a lawsuit in the ECHR in connection with the “regular violations of human rights by Ukraine in relation to him.”
