What children played before the advent of computers. Photo

Today’s children do not need too much strain to come up with something fun – it would be the Internet.

Whether it is in the good old days when the younger generation had to exercise incredible ingenuity to escape from boredom. Below you will find seven long-forgotten ways that children had fun long before finally move to the world wide web.

1. Related bird

If after reading the title, you thought this game needed somewhere to get out, then you lack imagination. In 1907 he published a book of games for children’s parties. One of these games was the following rule: “Wrist and ankle of a child playing the role of “poultry” must be tightly tied, elbows down below the knees. Then takes a stick and is passed over the elbow, behind the knees and on the second elbow as shown in the picture.” Two of the thus-prepared children put together. The task is to, using only your toes, get the opponent off his feet.

2. Grab and pull

In the old days children did not have computer games where they could throw out the aggression, and she came out of them naturally. In 1921, the game of “grab and pull” was recommended as an ideal sporting event for students.

The two teams lined up in rows opposite each other. Between them was a line drawn. The task was to grab any member of the opposing team and win over to their side. The game ended at the moment when the losing side had only one player. What happened to these remaining player further in the recommendations was not specified.

3. Knives

This game was incredibly popular among the boys of the 19th-20th centuries. The point was to take turns to perform a series of throws pocket knife with increasing complexity: right hand, left hand from behind, holding the knife between your ear and shoulder and so on.

Each next knife was to fall and stick in the ground next to the previous one. Some high-risk boys threw knives so that they are stuck in millimetres from the toes of their feet – the closer, the more chances of winning. Someone knife landed right on the leg, got the win automatically.

4. Kick a tin can

You probably imagined something like the poor children of the city suburbs, driving is licked to perfection tin can in the absence of the ball. In fact, this game is more like hide and seek.

All but one host, hiding. The presenter had to find all the children (which, if desired, was allowed to run from place to place). Found went with “prison”.

But most often, leading efforts proved futile, because at any moment the remaining “free” child can run up to standing on the most conspicuous place Bank and kick her. If this happened, the master had to go to correct Bank and “prisoners” were scattered and started all over again.

Adults who had a child to play this game, and remember that the vast majority of cases, it ended when the master was losing hope and patience and went home.

5. Get to goal

The children lined up and moving by turns, had to reach in front of goal. The difficulty was that none of the subsequent action is not repeated. If you are in the end of the queue, you would, for example, jumping on one leg, clapping your hands over your head. This game brought the audience no less joy than the players. This is one of the few opportunities to participate in that allowed girls.

6. Dog fighting

This game was fun, even adult uncles and forty, which by the end of the working week tired of all sorts of office ceremony, and wanted to “loosen the ties”. On the neck two players wore the belt, each trying to drag the opponent to his side. At this time, a “support group” was to encourage players joyful barking.

7. Guess who hit

It was one of the most popular entertainment in the Victorian era. The players sit in a circle, one puts his head on someone’s lap, and the rest took turns beating the poor guy in the back, demanding that he name the beat. The award winner was a release from further beatings.
