WADA was temporarily deprived of accreditation of the Moscow anti-doping laboratory

The world anti-doping Agency (WADA) suspended the full accreditation of the Moscow anti-doping laboratory. About it reports a press-service of the WADA.

Moscow anti-doping laboratory was stripped of its accreditation in November 2015, but in may 2016 WADA returned to the lab the right to make analyses of blood samples for the biological passport of the athlete.

January 21, the expert group recommended that the WADA President Witold Bathhouse to temporarily suspend the work of the laboratory, with which he agreed. During the period of suspension of accreditation of the Moscow lab again forbidden to perform any work related to the analysis of blood samples for the biological passport of the athlete. It is reported that the samples collected before the suspension of accreditation can be analyzed by the Moscow laboratory.

The laboratory will need to contact the relevant authorities to determine whether you need to transport any samples to another WADA accredited laboratory. Decision on temporary suspension of accreditation will remain in effect until disciplinary proceedings, reports TASS.

It is noted that this step was taken in connection with the decision of the Executive Committee of WADA dated 9 December 2019, according to which the Russian anti-doping Agency (RUSADA) has been deprived of the status of compliance with the code, and in relation to the Russian sports sanctions were imposed in connection with the manipulation of the database of the Moscow lab, which contains test results of athletes for the period from 2012 to 2015. Russia may in four years be denied the right to hold major sporting events and qualify for them, the country’s athletes can lose the ability to perform well at world Championships, Olympic and Paralympic games under the national flag.

RUSADA did not agree with the sanctions, WADA on 9 January sent a notice of dispute with RUSADA in the court of arbitration for Sport (CAS). Informed participation in the process as the third party has declared the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), Russian Paralympic Committee (RCC), the international Olympic Committee (IOC), international Paralympic Committee (IPC) and a number of national sports federations. They joined the process as an organization whose interests are affected by the decision of WADA.
