German carmaker Volkswagen plans large-scale investments in the production of electric vehicles in China. In the next seven years the company will invest 10 billion euros in the development of new electric and hybrid vehicles, to meet the quota in this country.
This was stated on Thursday, November 16, the head of the Chinese division of Volkswagen, Jochem Heizmann at the motor show in Guangzhou.
Till 2025 the company plans to launch 40 new models of cars. In addition, in order to conform to the standards of the Volkswagen you need to increase the number of annually produced electric car to 400 thousand by 2020.
Heizmann expressed confidence that the Volkswagen will complete the quota for electric vehicles in collaboration with its partners. It provides that by 2019, 10% of the vehicles produced by each automaker in China, is supposed to represent the electric and hybrid cars. By 2020, the quota should rise to 12%.
For fully electric vehicles manufacturers will receive more points than a car with a hybrid engine. For the release of alternative vehicles that can travel long distances, there are additional points. For failure to comply with established standards, manufacturers will either have to buy points from other companies or pay fines.
