Unusual architecture: the terminal port Lassoing in Portugal. Photo

Terminal port, linking together the land and sea.

Cruise terminal port Lassoing in Portugal, designed by Studio Lus Pedro Silva Arquitecto is a small seaside complex, whose construction had a dual purpose: improving the commercial efficiency of the port and integration into the urban environment.

That is why the project unites the work areas and spaces designed for public use.

The main building accommodates several software components: the cruise ship terminal, harbour for small boats, the Park of Science and Marine technology of the University of Porto, rooms for events and a restaurant.

The building is located on the edge of the South pier of the port in the Atlantic ocean, at a distance of 750 metres from Matosinhos and 10 kilometers from the center of Ribeira, the most popular tourist area of Porto. The building represents a hub linking the three main areas: a pier for cruise ships, the Marina and the street leading to the city.

Due to the bending of the pier and its intermediary role, the design is wrapped around its center, curved band, forming three main sleeves and one fourth in the form of a spiral ramp leading inside, in the height of the core of the building. The outer sleeve is directed towards the coast and cruise the boardwalk or elevated walkway to the beach and to the city Matosinhos.

The building is not large in size, especially when compared with cruise ships that it accepts. The building looks over the port and the beach is perceived as a mysterious white ball with a blind facade.

The closer you become visible arches and texture, engaging in the experience of architecture, movement and the body, inviting look and touch. When land and ocean create the will of the architects design, which links together land and sea.
