UN calls emergency meeting over missile launch of the DPRK

USA, Japan and South Korea initiate urgent consultations of the UN security Council after the rocket launch of the DPRK.

The United States, Japan and South Korea sought on Friday to hold emergency consultations of the UN Security Council in connection with another missile launch of the DPRK.

On 11 September, the UN Security Council unanimously adopted a resolution calling for tougher sanctions against North Korea. The decision was a reaction to the sixth and most powerful nuclear test conducted by the DPRK on September 3.

The document imposes a ban on the purchase of North Korean textile products, the sale of the country’s gas condensates, and provides for the inspection of cargo ships entering and leaving ports in North Korea.

The resolution imposes restrictions on the supply of petroleum products in North Korea – maximum of 500 thousand barrels by the end of this year and up to 2 million barrels a year starting in January 2018.

The resolution prohibits member countries of the UN to issue a work permit for citizens of the DPRK, except when it comes to humanitarian aid or programs of denuclearization.

The document allows you to inspect in the high seas, ships in the case of suspected of carrying prohibited cargo. Such inspection shall occur with the permission of the countries whose flag they walk.

Prohibition of procurement from DPRK of textile products, including cloth and partly finished products, shall enter into force within 90 days from the date of adoption of the resolution.Go to the Main page
