The population of Ukraine is rapidly decreasing and it is associated not only with mortality, but with the departure of citizens. This was stated at a press conference in Kiev, Director of the Ukrainian Institute of policy analysis and management Ruslan Bortnik.
“After this press conference, hour, Ukrainians will be 80 people. A key trend will be the depopulation of Ukrainians. According to the UN, Ukrainians every hour becomes 80 people less,” — said Bortnik “Politnavigator”.
The expert noted that in 2016 the country has left more than a million citizens, emigrate representatives of “the most socially productive class (youth, small and medium-sized businesses) are creating value added in the economies of Hungary, Poland and other countries.” Bortnik has forecast that in 2017, the trend will only intensify.
As reported, Ukraine’s population has been steadily decreasing after the collapse of the Soviet Union. The UN has estimated that from 1990 to 2013, the country has lost 6.4 million or 12% of the population. By 2013 the population decreased to 45.3 million.
As of 1 may 2015, taking into account the loss of Crimea, the Ukrainian state statistics Committee estimated the population at 42.8 million. According to UN forecasts, by 2050 the population of Ukraine may remain a mere 34 million citizens.
