In 2016 Ukraine exported the record volumes of garlic.
Ukraine in 2016 exported a record amount of garlic for the last six years — 195 tons.
About it reports a press-service of Association “Ukrainian club of agrarian business”.
According to the report, the main consumers of this product in 2016 are Belarus (61%), Latvia (13%) and Canada (11%). Average price per ton export of garlic was 1,47 thousand dollars.
However, Ukraine in the last year and 50% reduction in the import of garlic in comparison with the year 2015 and 3.2 thousand tons. This is the lowest figure over the past 8 years. The main supplier of this product in Ukraine is China.
The Association explained by the reduction of supplies to Ukraine the devaluation of the hryvnia against the dollar, making imported garlic is less affordable for Ukrainian consumers. In addition, the country’s growing production and reduced the need for imports.
Thus, according to the ASTP, last year farmers produced 187,8 thousand tons of garlic, 99% of which was grown in households.
