Ukraine ranks second in Europe in terms of deposits of natural gas

The difference in figures is due to different assessment methods.

Ukraine ranks second in Europe after Norway’s total reserves of natural gas.

According to analysts, Ukraine has 1.1 trillion cubic meters of gas reserves. Norway leads this ranking with 1.78 trillion cubic meters. Third place is the Netherlands – 0.8 trillion cubic meters.

As noted, estimates of the NJSC “Naftogaz of Ukraine” and the Ministry, the volume of “blue fuel” to Ukraine amount to 0.6 trillion cubic meters.

Thus “Naftogaz” includes in the calculation only the data of the companies excluding private miners.

In addition, the volume of exploration drilling to grow and the methodology of evaluation of reserves improved. Therefore, the revaluation of gas reserves is an ongoing process for all countries.

For example, in 1997 it was believed that in the US there are 4.5 trillion cubic meters of gas, now the figure is 8.7 trillion. Reserves of Iran 22 years ago was estimated at 22.7 trillion cubic meters, is now 33.2 per trillion.
