Parliament approved the corresponding bill.
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine supported the bill 6776-d, providing increase of excise tax rates on tobacco products. For the corresponding draft law voted 260 people’s deputies.
“The project envisages gradual until 2025 increasing the specific excise tax rates on tobacco products and the minimum excise tax liability with respect to excise tax on tobacco products”, – stated in the explanatory note to the bill.
In particular, in 2018 it is planned to increase the excise tax on the projected consumer price index -11,2%, and also by 16.7% (including the previous indexation on average 29.7%), and in subsequent years, – 20% to a level equivalent to 90 euros (2797 UAH) for 1000 pieces.
To date, the minimum tax liability for cigarettes in Ukraine is 20 euros (596 UAH) for 1000 pieces.
In addition, the draft stipulates that from 1 January 2025 to comply with the requirements of European Union Directive No. 2011/64 / EU of 21.06.2011 on the structure and rates of excise duty applied to tobacco products regarding the share of excise in average retail selling price of cigarettes of at least 60%. This mechanism is introduced to determine such prices.
