Ukraine increased transit of Russian gas to the EU

Украина увеличила транзит российского газа в ЕСThe head of Gazprom said that after January 2020 the transit of gas through Ukraine will be reduced to 15 billion cubic meters of gas per year.

For 10 months of 2017, Ukraine increased gas transit contract with Russian monopolist company Gazprom 18.6% (12.1 billion cubic meters) up to 77.4 billion cubic meters compared to the same period last year (then transit amounted to 65.3 billion cubic meters).

This is evidenced by the transmission system operator company, Ukrtransgaz.

Recall that in 2016 Ukraine increased the transit of natural gas by 22.5% (to 15.1 billion cubic meters) in comparison with the 2015 year – on-year to 82.2 billion cubic meters.

Earlier, Vice-President of the European Commission on energy Union Maros Sefcovic during the Yalta European strategy has stated that the continuation of gas transit through the gas transportation system of Ukraine after 2020 is a priority for the European Union.

Note that the current contract of Naftogaz and Gazprom provides for the mandatory transit of Russian gas through the territory of Ukraine until the end of 2019.

In late may, the head of the Board of Gazprom Alexei Miller stated that, after January 2020, the transit of gas through Ukraine will be reduced to 15 billion cubic meters of gas per year.

In addition, the Vice Prime Minister-Minister Vladimir Kistion said that Ukraine will return to purchases of gas from Gazprom in translations Europe buying Russian gas on the border with Russia.

Also in early September, with the same idea were made by the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko.
