Today, 17 October 2017, Ukraine became part of the UN Council on human rights in 2018-2020. This is stated in the message of the mission of Ukraine to the UN in Twitter.
“177 votes, Ukraine was elected to the UN Council on human rights in 2018 to 2020,” – said in the message.
Earlier, the UN said about the deteriorating situation with human rights in Crimea.
“There were serious human rights violations such as arbitrary arrests and detentions, enforced disappearances, ill-treatment and torture, and at least one extrajudicial execution”, – stated in the report of the UN office for human rights.
The document also stated that all the inhabitants of the Crimea suffered when Ukrainian laws on the Peninsula were replaced by the laws of the Russian Federation, and tens of thousands suffered from being forced to obtain Russian citizenship. These and other actions noted in the report, are violations of international humanitarian law and human rights.
