Ukraine and Poland signed an agreement language

Украина и Польша подписали языковое соглашениеAccording to Deputy Prime Minister of Poland, Ministry of education of Ukraine and Poland signed an agreement on the language of instruction of national minorities in accordance with the adopted in Ukraine education reform.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of culture and national heritage of Poland Piotr Glinski said that Ukraine had found common ground in regard to the law on education in Ukraine in the languages of national minorities. As UNIAN correspondent, he said this at a briefing in Kiev.

“Today, as soon as I found out, was signed by the understanding – the statement of the heads of educational offices after last week’s very productive visit by Minister Zalewski in Ukraine and with the Ukrainian side reached understanding,” said Glinski.

As UNIAN reported earlier, on October 17 the Minister of education and science of Ukraine Lilia Hrynevych and the Minister of national education of the Republic of Poland Anna Zalewski said he would sign a Declaration of assurances to representatives of the Polish minority receive full General education in Polish schools in Ukraine in the native language with a consistent increase in the proportion of subjects taught in the Ukrainian language.

*** On September 25 the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has signed the law “On education”, language which (article 7 of the language of education in Ukraine) has caused concern in Poland, Romania, Hungary, Greece, Bulgaria. The new law is being introduced in Ukraine 12-year secondary education, the language of the educational process in educational institutions is the state language – Ukrainian. Poroshenko instructed the Ministry of foreign Affairs and the Ministry of education and science to carry out about this law requires consultation with the European partners, in particular with the Council of Europe.

On September 28 foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin has sent article 7 of the law “On education” for consideration of the Venice Commission. Her opinion on the law will be ready by December.
