Uber refused to spy on location of taxi passengers after the trip.
As told the head of the security service Uber Technologies Inc. Joe Sullivan, the company will remove a critical function that allows you to track passengers within five minutes after the ride from your app.
About changes will be announced in the near future, the updated app for iOS will work starting this week.
The company also plans to update Android applications, but when it is done, is not disclosed.
Uber began to request permission to collect location data in the background in November 2016. In theory, this function allowed you to follow users constantly, however, the company insisted that gather geolocation data only for five minutes after a trip to improve the service and increase the safety of the users.
The innovation has caused widespread criticism in the media and among users themselves. Sullivan in a conversation with Reuters admitted that the company made the mistake of asking the users of such information without explanation about what she needed.
