Toyota, Mazda and Denso established a company to launch electric vehicles

Automakers Toyota Motor, Mazda Motor and automotive components supplier Denso has announced the signing of a contract for the joint development of the main structural technologies for electric vehicles.

In addition, the company also agreed to establish a joint venture EV Common Architecture Spirit Co Ltd to ensure the effective implementation of joint projects of technological development. The Toyota will be a 90 percent stake in the new company, and Mazda and Denso is 5 %.

In a press release, Toyota stated that jointly developed the basic structural technology for electric vehicles will be distributed to the different segments and types of vehicles to provide flexible and rapid response to market trends.

The agreement covers a wide range of models of vehicles from mini-cars to passenger cars, SUVs and light trucks, as well as focus on innovation in the development process, combining the strengths of each company, including skills in scheduling and ability to work in the field of computer simulation of Mazda, Denso electronic technology and a modular platform of the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA).

Paid recent years the focus of developing cars with hydrogen fuel cells, Toyota last year created a division to develop electric vehicles, which is headed by President Akio Toyoda. In the near future, Toyota plans to introduce an electric car in China.

At the moment, neither Toyota nor Mazda are not in the range of fully electric passenger car.
