Europeans in long dresses and elegant suits had climbed the Egyptian pyramids at 1860-1935 years.
Famous monuments of Ancient Egypt have attracted Europeans for centuries. In 1869 completed the construction of the Suez canal and wealthy tourists, eager to visit the pyramids of Giza, became even more.
In the same year, the inventor of organized tourism Thomas cook offered his first tour of Palestine and the Nile, by starting a regular trip on the boat on a huge river. The discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb in 1922 sparked a new wave of egyptomania among Europeans.
Many tourists were content with pictures on the background of the Sphinx and the great pyramids, but the bravest climbed to the top of almost 140-metre-high pyramid of Cheops. In these photos, taken in the period from 1860 to 1935, was captured tourists in Egypt, aspiring to the top of one of the seven wonders of the ancient world.
