Experts from Edinburgh University have established that it suppresses the activity of genes associated with cancer. The researchers studied the effect of oleic acid molecule of miR-7 in brain. This molecule prevents the development of cancer.
Experiments with living cells and cell extracts showed that oleic acid did not give the protein MSI2 to stop the production of miR-7. The molecule continued to be produced and provided protection from cancer. Scientists hope that their discovery will help in the development of new methods of prevention of brain cancer.
By the way, earlier the staff of the medical research Institute Feinstein found: an anthelmintic drug mebendazole is able to cope with certain types of brain cancer, including glioma, low-grade. Mebendazole destroying tumor cells as well as vincristine (a drug used for the treatment of brain cancer).
