If you have insomnia and counting sheep help not helps – bedtime drink a glass of cherry juice.
Bitter-sweet drink was tested in a recent study conducted by the State University of Louisiana, writes The Independent.
The result, published in the American journal of therapy, showed that red juice increases sleep duration.
Study participants were given a large glass of cherry juice or a placebo, which they drank twice a day, immediately after waking up and before going to sleep.
After two weeks, those who drank cherry juice, switched to placebo and Vice versa.
As it turned out, those participants who drank cherry juice, they slept longer at 84 minutes, and they have improved the overall efficiency of sleep.
Researchers found that cherry juice contains compounds that inhibit the formation of chemicals in the brain that lead to bad sleep.
This drink is also rich in anthocyanins, associated with the reduction of inflammation. The juice also lowers kynurenine (neuroactive substance) in the blood, which is associated with insomnia.
