Researchers from the University of Illinois established that the compound contained in grape seed extract, prevents tooth decay, strengthening the dentin (hard tissue of the tooth). In addition, it prolongs the life of composite fillings. We are talking about the oligomeric vegetable proanthocyanidine belonging to the class of flavonoids.
Dentin consists mainly of the protein collagen. Composites must be attached to the dentine, but the area where they connect is the weak point. This seal is often broken.
Scientists have discovered that damaged collagen of dentin is able to recover with the help of oligomeric proanthocyanidin.
So, oligomeric proanthocyanidin protects teeth from decay and provides a better grip composite fillings with the surface. According to experts, oligomeric proanthocyanidin is found in many foods. However special it is abundant in grape seed extract.
