As noted by the artist himself, he painted as much as I can remember. As a child, Herluf couldn’t understand why adults laugh at his drawings. Later, it became clear that all of his creations were real cartoons. The artist said: “Gradually I began to understand what made a comic impression, and often have quite consciously, drawing to elicit laughter from the audience. Soon, I am pleased to are convinced that laughter is my ally”. This genre of visual art was decisive in his work.

The artist painted travelogue, cartoons on acute political topics, domestic scenes. Most of all, the Herluf Bidstrup became famous for his mini-comics. These stories are in pictures all is clear without words, regardless of nationality:

“Caricature means exaggeration, most often it is understood as distortion. I, however, never distort the reality, but is often used caricature as a way of exaggeration. It should give the viewer the same impression of what is depicted has produced a drawing. The acuteness of perception of the pattern made by black strokes on a smooth sheet of white paper, and even in a much reduced form, of course, weaker impressions of reality, so lost must be made up in another way”.
