On the nominees, we wrote a couple of weeks ago, and now coveted statuette found their heroes. Recall that StokerCon is held under the auspices of the Association of authors of horror (Horror Writers Association HWA or just), and Bram Stoker Award – one of the main awards for “dark” authors. Not that you should immediately drop everything and look for the texts of the winners, but at least to mark them down not hurt.

What about the prize this year? First, as we have already noted, among the nominees there were not so many well known Russian authors. I want to believe that yet. Secondly, another award bagged a wonderful film Robert Eggers of “the Witch” – this time he got lucky scenario “Bram Stoker”. And thirdly, personally I want to be happy for Joyce Carol Oates. Just think, she’s almost 80 years old and she takes two nominations in major categories! Such grandmothers we welcome.

Domestic lover of literature horror a natural question arises: will we see any of that in Russian? There is reason to believe that, Yes. You’re with us follow the progress of the series of foreign horror “Masters of horror” right? So, the editors translated fiction Astrel-SPb, which engaged and interested us with books, at the end of last year made the top ten foreign horror books 2016. It was logical to assume that the individual works (and even all together) to the publisher are considered as a potential new items in the “Masters of horror”. At the top was the”Fisherman” John Langan, who had just won the Stoker award. If it had eyes beforehand, now that Cthulhu himself told me to publish it! Let’s wait for official news, but for now remember, as the book spoke in the top:

One of the main representatives of the weird horror in our list, the so-called “quiet horror”, where the main emphasis is on atmosphere and psychology, but gradually turns off to the side of the space nightmare. Written with an eye on Lovecraft and Algernon Blackwood, “the Fisherman” tells the story of two widowers who are trying to come to terms with their losses, but they know about the legend about a Fisherman, is able to realize any dream.
