Russia allegedly tries to eliminate Joint investigation Commission that is investigating the use of chemical weapons in Syria.
The White house has accused Russia that it protects the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and the terrorists that use chemical weapons. This is stated in the official comments, press Secretary of the White house Sarah Sanders.
The statement noted that the mission of the Organization for the prohibition of chemical weapons issued a report stating that sarin was used as a chemical weapon in March 2017 in al-Vitaminah, Syria.
“Although these findings, unfortunately, do not surprise the United States, however, they are concerned about. Al-Vitaminah is located approximately 10 miles from Han-Sayhun, where the Assad regime used sarin gas against its own citizens only five days later, apparently as part of a concerted campaign”, – stated in the message.
It is noted that these events show the importance of the reconstitution of the Joint investigation Commission composed of staff from the UN and the Organization for the prohibition of chemical weapons, which is responsible for the official determination of liability for such attacks, which is key to deterring them in the future.
“We call on Russia to change course before the expiry of the term of office of the joint mechanism,” said Sanders.
According to her, countries such as Russia that do not support the renewal of the mandate of the mission or try to blur out, “protect the Assad regime and terrorists who continue to use chemical weapons”.
