The technology for foldable smartphones

By 2018 it will be ready for commercial application of new technology, which will allow to fold and unfold smartphones like the book.

As reported by a Korean company, Kolon Industries, smartphones with folding screens testing five manufacturers of such devices.

Breakthrough display technology developed by the team of scientists of the Korean Institute of advanced technology (KAIST) under the supervision of Bay of Ben-su. They managed to create a flexible, but solid and scratch-resistant film that can act as panels for mobile devices. A hybrid siloxane material made from a mixture of quartz glass, silicone rubber and polymer molecules.

The resulting film was a strong, glass-like, and elastic, like rubber. As Patently Apple writes, the material is very reliable: it can be folded without loss of properties over 200 thousand times with a bend radius of less than 1 millimeter. Innovative technology will be used in commercial products next year.
