The Swiss, in a referendum supported the refusal from nuclear power plants

The new law provides for transition to alternative energy sources.

The referendum in Switzerland the people voted for a ban on building new nuclear power plants in favor of renewable energy sources.

This is evidenced by preliminary data of the national vote.

According to 16.00 in Kiev, 58.5% of residents of Switzerland supported the “Energy strategy 2050”, under which a new nuclear power plant will no longer be built in the country. This question was not required to obtain a cantonal majority.

In accordance with the approved strategy, the Swiss government will now also support the development of renewable energy sources for use instead of nuclear. In addition, the planned program to reduce energy consumption by introducing new energy standards and tax privileges for those involved in energy innovation.

The citizens of Switzerland for the second time vote on the issue of national energy strategy. In November 2016, they voted that the existing Swiss nuclear power plants have to work hard to end their tenure.
