Astronomers from the South African astronomical Observatory have discovered one of the brightest “new” stars.
Scientists call the “new” those stars, the luminosity of which suddenly increases ten thousand times.
Such a star and was SMCN 2016-10a, located in the galaxy called the Small Magellanic cloud. Due to increments of the mass of the star by the gravitational attraction of matter, so-called process of accretion, the scientists noted an unusual brightness of the star.
SMCN 2016-10a is a white dwarf and source energy is the companion star. When “the star-recipient” experiencing uncontrolled fusion reaction due to reaching critical density, there is an increase in brightness.
At the moment a new star is recognized as one of the brightest in the known Universe and the brightest star in the galaxy, which is 200 thousand light-years from the milky way and is one of the nearest to him.
