The official representative of Russian foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova at the weekly press briefing said that Ukraine’s intention to sharply limit the use of the Russian language could be an attempt to suppress dissent.
“If Kiev had bothered to collect information about how language issues are dealt with in European States, they would have realized that all these years of commitment to European values, they went in the opposite direction,” – said Zakharov.
Also, the Russian foreign Ministry insist that the law be discriminated against not only minorities, who inhabit the Ukraine, but “the people who for many centuries used the Russian language, creating a common culture of Ukraine”.
“Approval of these documents means the actual legalization of forced Ukrainization of the country, institutionalized the struggle not only with the Russian language and culture, but also with the languages of other ethnic groups living in Ukraine”, – said Zakharov.
“In fact, in the country at the state level introduced a linguistic genocide,” she concluded, adding that it is a tool to suppress dissent.
