It turned out that the animal which is called filesavr, lived in the late Jurassic period, about 145 million years ago.
Chiltara was a small skull, long neck and a body size of about 3 meters. This animal was presented to scientists a kind of “Frankenstein’s monster”. For example, his head resembles the head of a carnivorous dinosaur, but he has flat teeth suited for grinding plant.
“There was a split in the family tree of dinosaurs, and two branches went in different evolutionary directions. It seems that this happened because of a change in the diet. It seems that some carnivorous dinosaurs became more beneficial to eat plants,” says one of the team of researchers, Matthew Baron from the University of Cambridge in the UK.
Thanks to the opening becomes clearer the evolution of the detachment of dinosaurs called bird-hipped. Apparently, filesavr was one of the first ornithischian, the most famous representatives of which are Triceratops and stegosaurus.
The study sheds light on how different groups of dinosaurs were divided and began to evolve in different directions over one hundred million years ago. Will soon change all family tree of the dinosaurs, which scientists have not changed for about 130 years.
