The price of gas for Ukraine could rise by 40%

The size of the tariff depends on the decision of the Stockholm court.

Gas prices for households from April 1, could grow by 40%, according to the article in the “New time” commercial Director of the Group “Naftogaz of Ukraine” Yuriy Vitrenko.

“If there is no extended state regulation of prices for the needs of the population, the so-called special duties, based on current gas prices in the European markets, the hryvnia exchange rate and other factors, we can expect that the price of gas for the needs of the population will grow by 40%… If the state regulation will be extended, what else needs to agree with the IMF, because the Memorandum, the government promised the IMF that the special duties were introduced only until 1 April, then price increases may be able to delay until October,” he said.

At the same time, Vitrenko said that if the Stockholm arbitration court will satisfy the claim to the Russian “Gazprom” and the us would start importing gas at “hub minus” (European price minus transportation cost from the Russian border to Germany), then you can expect lower wholesale prices to the public twice compared to the current price.

Otherwise, it can be expected that “the increase in wholesale prices for gas for the needs of the population will be at least 47%”.

Recall, from may 1, 2016 in Ukraine set a single price for the population at 6.9 UAH per cubic meter.

The increase in gas tariff was the obligation of Ukraine to the IMF. The previous Cabinet had planned to complete in 2017, but the government Volodymyr Groysman claimed that the increase in 2016 will lead the rate to market level.
