The incident drew the attention of Garry Kasparov.
The American newspaper the New York Times published a map on which the occupied Crimea marked the same color as the territory of the Russian Federation and signed as “disputed territory”.
It on Twitter drew the attention of the Russian opposition, the 13th world chess champion Garry Kasparov.
“This map depicts the NYTimes Crimea says that Russia, as a “disputed” territory. Controversial from the point of view of Putin, for his capture! It is sad and wrong. The Crimea is Ukraine. Fix it,” he wrote.
This map was published in an article in The New York Times about the construction of a bridge across the Kerch Strait, called “Putin’s bridge to the Crimea can carry more symbolism than traffic”.
