In October, inflation is expected to slow down compared to the same period last year. This was stated by acting head of the NBU Jacob Smoliy in an interview to UKRINFORM.
“We expect inflation in October compared to the same period last year, needs to slow down, because last year the reason for the significant jump was the increase in tariffs for utilities, which is not expected now,” – said resin.
However, he noted that the main inflation risks still remain. Smoliy said that the rise in prices of raw food, particularly fruit and vegetables, and low yields due to spring frosts, created the preconditions that inflation by year-end, may even go beyond the target range. In addition, this unfavorable prognosis is associated with the fact that Ukraine significantly increased its exports, while manufacturing growth was not equal. Especially, according to Smoliy, this was reflected in the milk and meat group of products.
At the same time, the Deputy head of the national Bank expressed confidence that already in the first half of 2018, inflation will return to the Central value of the target corridor. “Therefore, in the revised forecast, we will probably move within the corridor, but the situation has its explanation. And we hope that already in the first half of next year inflation will return to the Central value of the target corridor, and later in 2018-2019 inflation will not exceed the purposes that we have identified in the short and medium term”, – concluded resin.
