NATO needs to combine the dialogue with Russia and deterrence, repeating in the new situation the methods used during the cold war against the Soviet Union. This was stated by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
“Of course, we need to combine dialogue with credible deterrence”, – said Stoltenberg.
According to him, during the cold war, lessons were learned, suggesting that “dialogue is possible when both solid predictable approach, including credible deterrence”.
“It worked against the Soviet Union during the cold war, and I am quite sure that this strategy is correct in relation to Russia today on the background of the changed security situation,” – said the NATO Secretary General.
