Thursday, September 21, all Orthodox Christians will celebrate the feast of the Nativity of the blessed virgin Mary, which looks back to the great mother righteousness of Jesus Christ and its favor to the people. The Orthodox built a monastery of St. Anne, on the first floor is the Church of the Nativity of the virgin, and under the very building of the monastery is preserved the cave that supposedly was a part of the house of Joachim and Anna. Roman Catholics indicate the site of the house in the vicinity of Bethesda, and built there the Basilica of St. Anne in the crypt where there are also ancient underground room.
It is noteworthy that the virgin is not only the protector of the family and all the mothers but also the patroness of agriculture and of farmers. Therefore, it was popular tradition to dedicate a day of her Christmas gathering of the harvest: people having completed the field work and collecting plants.
