Specialists conducted a study on mice. Rodents to the beginning of adolescence stuck to a balanced diet. Then mice were transferred to a diet with low levels of omega-3. Because of this, in rodents decreased the nutrient levels in the prefrontal cortex and nucleus accumbens.
The first area of the brain associated with a number of important functions, including memory and the regulation of emotions, and the second reward.
So, a diet with a low content of fatty acids omega-3 have a negative effect on development of the brain of rodents. It weakened the connections between neurons in the above areas.
According to scientists, in adolescence, people often begin to decide what they eat. Therefore, the diet many adolescents may lack omega-3.
