Poltorak assessed the threat to Ukraine.
The Minister of defence of Ukraine Stepan Poltorak claims that Russian Federation is not the first time conducts large-scale exercises, calling them planned, but Ukraine, which remembers the experience of Georgia, supports combat readiness for the case of full-scale aggression of the Russian Federation, the deletion of which is not.
About this Poltorak said in an interview.
“Russia conducts large-scale exercises, officially stating: they are planned and those which do not threaten any state. However, experience shows that this is not true. In addition to demonstrations of force, training on this scale may serve as a cover deployment of attack groupings of troops of the Russian Federation, the dispersal of weapons and stockpiles of material resources in the operating areas and processing applications of such a force. We remember how the Russian troops involved in the maneuvers “Caucasus-2008″, has not returned from landfills and started aggression against Georgia”, – said the Minister.
He stressed that Russia has declared about the participation in the exercises “West-2017” 13 thousand military, but in Ukraine I think that maneuvers can involve more than 100 thousand soldiers.
“In addition, the Federation threw the aircraft, which is involved in the exercise earlier than planned. It poses a threat to Ukraine and other European countries. We are monitoring the situation and know about the movement of Russian troops along the Ukrainian border. We maintain high combat readiness to, if necessary, to respond adequately to the danger,” – said Poltorak.
“West-2017” joint doctrine of the Armed forces of Russia and Belarus, scheduled for the period from 14 to 20 September this year. According to official data of the Russian Federation, the exercise will be attended by up to 13 thousand troops, according to Western analysts, up to 100 thousand.
