Ukrainians do not tolerate corruption, but are willing unfair way “to resolve issues”
Values of Ukrainians and Europeans are very different. The renowned sociologist, Deputy Director of the Institute of sociology of NAS of Ukraine. Eugene Golovakha said in an interview that the most important thing for the Ukrainians and how they do it.
According to him, laws, courts and everything else can function if people have the appropriate values, which coincide with the good intentions of these structures.
“If value is honesty in all matters, these laws are of great importance. When you believe that success can be achieved in any way, you are learning to circumvent the law. Equality before the law is basic for the European Union. We are all equal, but some “are more equal than others”. If we success in life outside the law, that officials simply do not comply with the law, because they have some internal agreement on the distribution of spheres of influence. They can change money on the law and Vice versa. Ordinary citizens do not have such opportunities, they condemn political corruption,” said Golovakha.
He noted that Ukrainians do not tolerate corruption, but are willing dishonest way to “solve problems”.
“We are on the first or second place in Europe in intolerance towards manifestations of political corruption. Even two of the Maidan arranged. But when these people ask, and if you need to solve your issue through gifts or offerings? Our people this are normal! Here too we hold a first or second place, but at the end. Why? Because the values of equality before the law is still there. We believe that we are equal before the law needs to be other people, not us,” – said the sociologist.
He explained what values are dominated by the Europeans and Ukrainians.
“They (Europeans – ed.), self-realization is one of the main values. For us it is also important, but in the form of careerism, the model of self-realization is different. The modern model of self-realization leaves the place in the social hierarchy. You can fulfill your potential, being the Prime Minister or an ordinary citizen in any activity. We have self – fulfillment career. For example, where rushed the people from the Maidan to the Verkhovna Rada. Journalists, commanders and public figures. Why they decided that they can manage government? Because it is a means of self-actualization, career growth. I do not blame them, are our values in society. Is the dominant value of European freedom. We are a leading value – safety. It is normal when people value security. A normal person wants to live in security,” said Golovakha.
Earlier, the sociologist Irina Bekeshkina told about the main shift in the consciousness of Ukrainians after 2014. According to her, Russia “has gained Crimea, but lost Ukraine.”
