The leader of Catalonia Carles Pujdeme responded to an ultimatum to Madrid, stating that Catalonia will immediately declare independence if the Central government in Madrid will continue to hinder the dialogue and continue the repression.
The text of the letter of the head of the Catalan government, Carles Pokdemon to the Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy leads the Spanish newspaper El Mundo. The term of the ultimatum of Madrid ended on Thursday at 10:00 local time. In the letter Pujdeme indirectly admits that last week he had not declared the independence of Catalonia.
“On 10 October, the Parliament held a session to assess the outcome of the referendum and its consequences, and I offered to suspend the people’s mandate,” wrote Pujdeme.
In the letter Pujdeme reminded that froze the Declaration of independence for the sake of dialogue Madrid, however, was rejected.
“I offered to hold a meeting, but this did not happen”, – he wrote.
Pujdeme also criticized the Spanish government for the arrest of two key social activists in Catalonia – the “repressive decision,” in which he blamed Spain.
In the last paragraph of his letter he warned of a possible vote in Parliament for the independence of Catalonia if there will be no dialogue, and the repression will continue.

On 10 October the head of the government of Catalonia signed the Declaration of independence, but suspended its action, calling on Madrid to dialogue.
