The foreign Ministry of Ukraine commented on the new resolution on Crimea

The new resolution is needed to put pressure on Russia, according to the Ministry of foreign Affairs.

Resolution Situation of human rights in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and city of Sevastopol initiated by the Ukrainian delegation, will be considered by the General Assembly of the United Nations in the second half of December this year. This was reported on the official website of the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

“The next step will be consideration of the draft resolution at a plenary meeting of the UNGA in the second half of December 2017 and the main thing – forcing the Russian Federation to its full implementation”, – stated in the message.

The foreign Ministry explained that the introduction of a new document for consideration by the UNGA due to the continuation of the policy of the Russian Federation in the occupied Crimea. “The current resolution aims to force Russia as the occupying state to stop gross violations of human rights and fundamental freedoms of the person”, – said the Minister.

Diplomats also emphasize that the positive vote on the resolution shows the support of Ukraine in the world in the issue of de-occupation of Crimea. “First, is to support Ukraine in the issue of de-occupation of the Crimea… second, the document calls for the implementation of interim solutions (of the Order) International court of justice in the case of Ukraine against Russia from April 19, 2017, which is still not completed. thirdly, the access to the Peninsula international monitoring mission remains closed. This question has a direct impact on the daily lives of the residents of Crimea and, therefore, requires immediate action,” – said the Minister.

The foreign Ministry stressed that the resolution is one of the elements to provide pressure on the Russian Federation and the opening of the Crimea for international monitors.

Earlier in the day, the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly supported the resolution Situation of human rights in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and city of Sevastopol initiated by the Ukrainian delegation.

The resolution calls in particular on Russia to take all necessary measures to immediately put an end to violations and abuses of human rights against the residents of the Crimea, and to respect the laws in force in Ukraine, and to cancel the laws imposed in Crimea, the Russian Federation and allowing the forced eviction and confiscation of private property in Crimea in violation of applicable international law.

According to the resolution, the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly also condemns the illegal establishment of the Russian Federation laws, jurisdiction and administration in the occupied Crimea and demands that Russia comply with the obligations under international law to respect the laws in force in Crimea before the occupation.

The document also calls on Russia to immediately cancel the decision to declare the Mejlis an extremist organization and ban its activities, and to provide education in Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar languages.
